William Byron leads the 1-2-3 sweep by Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolets
William Byron won the Pennzoil 400 presented by Jiffy Lube at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, taking Hendrick Motorsports to a 1-2-3 finish. Byron’s No. 24 Chevrolet led for 176 of 271 laps and won all three stages of the race, dominating the field for most of the day. Teammates Kyle Larson and Alex Bowman finished in second and third place respectively in a thrilling overtime finish.
Speaking after the race, Byron said he had felt confident in his car all weekend and had texted with team owner Rick Hendrick before the race to reassure him that they would try to win for him. This came after the tough news that their star driver Chase Elliott would be missing the race due to a snowboarding injury. Xfinity Series driver Josh Berry filled in for Elliott in the No. 9 Chevrolet.
It was a well-deserved win for the Hendrick Motorsports team and an impressive victory for Byron, who has now won five Cup Series races in his career.
