During Nintendo’s recent Super Mario Bros.-themed Direct, fans were treated to the third and final trailer for the highly anticipated animated Super Mario Bros. Movie. Prior to the trailer’s release, the event kicked off with the Hollywood cast along with Miyamoto and Illumination founder sharing a few words about MAR10–which spells “Mario” when viewed from a certain perspective–an official day dedicated to Nintendo’s plumber. However, Jack Black had a different idea, stating that it should be Bowser Day instead. True to form, Black’s word became law–Happy Bowser Day!
Bowser’s Day
Following Black’s proclamation, the trailer played, giving fans a closer look at Mario in action as he went about his business tearing up the track on Rainbow Road. The trailer included a glimpse of Bowser’s legion of Koopa, sending fans into a frenzy as they waited with bated breath for the film’s release. After the trailer, the filmmakers, Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, talked about how much they had worked on making Mario Kart’s Rainbow Road and the vehicles racing down it authentic to the games that inspired them. Finally, Miyamoto announced that Mario’s silver-screen shoes would be available to view at Super Nintendo World in Universal Studios Hollywood.

Although Black’s Bowser featured prominently at the event, the previous Super Mario Bros. Movie trailer treated fans to a closer look–or listen–to Seth Rogan’s performance as Donkey Kong. Chris Pratt’s method of using his regular human voice in the role of Mario continues with Rogan’s stoner-inspired voice as the unlucky Kong. Fans were thrilled with the resulting memes emerging from the clip, as social media users repurposed the clip of Donkey Kong winding up to punch Mario with video game and TV show scenes.

Nintendo and Illumination Studios stunned fans when they announced back in 2021 that they were working on an animated Mario movie starring a star-studded Hollywood cast.
