How to Prepare for the Seven-Star Tera Raid and Catch Decidueye in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

If you are a fan of Pokémon, you are probably already excited about the upcoming seven-star tera raid in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, featuring the new addition to the lineup, Decidueye. This limited-time event will give players a chance to catch the Alolan grass-type starter, which is not available in the game otherwise. While there are still some details about the raid that we don’t know yet, Game Freak has revealed enough information that you can prepare yourself for the event. In this guide, we will look at some possible strategies to defeat and catch Decidueye before it goes away forever.

Event Details

The Decidueye raid will take place on the weekend of March 17-19 and then again on March 24-26. The event will be available from 7 p.m. Eastern time on Friday until 6:59 p.m. Eastern time on Sunday. During this period, players can challenge Decidueye to battle as many times as they like. After the event, Decidueye will go into the vault until the following week when it will be available again.

Battling Decidueye

As with any seven-star raid, Decidueye will be at level 100, and any Pokémon that you bring to the fight should also be at the same level. While the owl archer has a grass/ghost typing, its tera type will be flying. This means its inherent weaknesses and resistances will be that of a flying-type Pokémon, rather than its natural grass/ghost. Its moveset will likely still be based around those base types, so it’s important to consider what Pokémon you can bring that will both be able to deal damage to a flying-type Pokémon, and resist the damage output of an enemy who operates primarily with grass and ghost attacks.

Do not bring a Pokémon that can weaken flying Pokémon but would be susceptible to a well-placed Leaf Blade or Spirit Shackle, like the rock-type Sudowoodo, or the ice/ghost-type Froslass. Instead, try a Pokémon that has high physical defense, which seems to work best for Decidueye. The Violet mascot, Miraidon, is a great option, with its electric/dragon typing making it resistant to the owl archer’s grass attacks. It has a respectable base 100 defense stat, making it an excellent choice for handling almost any grass attack.

Miraidon can increase the power of your team’s electric moves through its Hadron Engine ability, which automatically creates an electric terrain on the battlefield, making electric attacks more effective. An icy-based offensive is another option, where Baxcalibur can deliver a punch with its signature move, Glaive Rush, which has a base 120 power on top of the Pokémon’s exceptional physical strength. However, Glaive Rush has a significant downside that makes Baxcalibur vulnerable until it gets to attack again.

Availability

While Miraidon is exclusive to the Violet version of the game and there are not many options for an electric-based offensive, there is still Magnezone, an electric/steel typed Pokémon, which is resistant to flying and grass attacks, making it a good pick as well. If you want to breed a Rowlet for the future, keep in mind that it will not evolve into a Hisuian Decidueye, so there is no way to get this type in the game at the moment.

The Decidueye Raid is a unique and limited-time event that offers Pokémon fans a chance to catch the Alolan grass-type starter. It is always important to be prepared and have a solid strategy when going into battle. With the tips and advice provided in this guide, you will be well on your way to defeating and capturing the coveted seven-star tera Decidueye. Good luck, and happy hunting!
