Issues with The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition Upgrade for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S

The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition recently received an upgrade for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Although it was announced only a few weeks ago, players are already discovering various issues with the game. Despite its visual upgrades and enhanced performance, many players are reporting a number of problems with the game. In this article, we will examine the issues that players are facing with the new Spacer’s Choice Edition upgrade.

The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition

The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition is a sci-fi RPG shooter released in 2019 by Obsidian Entertainment. It follows the story of space pirates and corporate espionage. The Spacer’s Choice Edition includes two existing DLCs Peril on Gorgon and Murder on Eridanos, and provides players with visual updates, improved performance, and other enhancements. While the game features numerous improvements, there are some common issues that many players are facing.

Performance Problems

One of the most significant issues that players are experiencing with The Outer Worlds is related to its performance. Many players across Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, and new PC versions are reporting problems with the game’s performance. Despite its visual and performance improvements, there are numerous stuttering issues while traveling around the world. The framerate can be rough and frequently chugs when entering a new area or fighting enemies in a particularly large environment.

Players are having a tough time playing the game in its current form, especially considering that The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition is a full $60. The game is currently discounted to $48 for a limited time, and players who already own the base game and existing DLC will still need to pay $10 to upgrade. The game, unlike the base version, is not available on Game Pass either. Moreover, the game is technically an entirely separate version of the base game, which means that it takes up a separate slot in your console and Steam library. You cannot transfer your existing save file over to it, and players who own physical copies of the game are having trouble even accessing the paid upgrade option.

Visual Upgrades

Despite the performance issues, The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition does offer some visual upgrades. Players can expect an improvement in environmental textures, volumetric lighting, and other small details that make it the prettiest version of Obsidian Entertainment’s action-RPG about space pirates and corporate espionage yet. The load times are quicker on the new consoles, but they were already decent on the backwards compatible versions.

Conclusion

The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition offers numerous upgrades and improvements, but it still suffers from performance issues. Many players are struggling to play the game in its current form, and the fact that it is a separate version of the game and requires players to pay extra only adds to the frustration. However, players can still enjoy the game’s visual improvements and enhanced performance. While the new version is not available on Game Pass, it is currently discounted for a limited time, which may entice some players to give it a try.
