Rocksteady’s latest online co-op action shooter, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, has reportedly been delayed from its original May release date to a yet-to-be-announced date later this year. The news comes following the release of last month’s new gameplay footage, which received numerous negative reviews from both fans and critics.

About Suicide Squad

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is based on a longstanding series of DC Comics that follows villains recruited by government agent Amanda Waller into completing dangerous and ethically doubtful missions. The game stars popular DC villains like Harley Quinn and Captain Boomerang and is connected to the Arkham games, unlike last year’s other DC co-op flop, Gotham Knights.

Possible Improvement Before Release

Bloomberg reports that a person with direct knowledge of the matter has confirmed the game’s delay, although they don’t link the delay to the backlash the trailer received. However, it’s believed that the additional time will enable the game makers to improve and polish the game to address the negative comments from fans and critics. The relatively short delay is unlikely to overhaul the core gameplay, as Jason Schreier points out. Instead, it’s about tweaking and polishing what’s already there.

Delay in Release Date

Assuming the game still releases later this year, this delay wouldn’t be new for the Suicide Squad game. Its original release date was postponed to spring 2023. If the delay takes place, the game makers have more time to make further improvements. However, as Schreier notes, it’s unlikely they will completely change the game’s structure of live-service or its online requirements.

Final Words

While it’s disappointing that the game won’t hit its release date, a delay in the launch date is better than releasing an unfinished and unsatisfactory game. Rocksteady has previously released well-received games like Batman Arkham games. Fans will eagerly await Suicide Squad’s release and hope that it is worth the wait.
