Roller coasters are an adrenaline-pumping amusement park staple that people of all ages enjoy. It’s not uncommon for thrill-seekers to wait in long lines for hours just to experience the rush of a popular coaster. But have you ever heard of a roller coaster that takes over 3 quinvigintillion years to complete? Well, that’s precisely what YouTuber Marcel Vos has created with his pure and original 20-year-old version of Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 game.
Roller Coaster Tycoon
Released in 2002, Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 is a PC theme park building game that allows players to create their dream amusement parks by designing rides, attractions, and landscapes. The game is still popular among the gaming community, and players actively mod and customize the game to create unique experiences. However, Marcel Vos, a well-known Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 YouTuber, prefers to play the game without any mods or open-source ports. In 2019, he created a roller coaster that takes 12 years to complete. And now, he’s upped the ante by creating a coasted that would take over three quinvigintillion years to finish.
The Making of the “Universe Coaster”
To create this record-breaking coaster, Marcel Vos designed an incredibly long coaster with almost no spikes, and minimal rises and drops. The train moves very slowly around the coaster, and it takes almost two years to finish a single ride. Once the coaster reaches the end, it reverses due to specific ride options, and this trip takes even longer. The coaster has to take this long journey seven times before the entire ride is considered complete. The ride length for this is over 2 years, which is long, but not the universe-spanning ride the headline promised.
The Universe Coaster
To achieve the promised universe-spanning ride, Marcel Vos created 253 smaller roller coasters that are synced with the larger, very slow coaster using in-game options in Roller Coaster Tycoon 2. Once the big roller coaster finishes one ride, which takes two years, one of the smaller coasters starts its ride, and that coaster is synced to another coaster that completes a ride, and so on. When you reach the final roller coaster in this nightmare chain, it takes much longer than just two years to complete the ride. To put it in perspective, if you were to count a single atom every year of everything that exists in the known universe, you would finish counting around the time Vos’ “Universe Coaster” would end its hard-to-comprehend journey. In other words, it would take over three quinvigintillion years to see the final ride finish its eternal journey through theme park hell.
Experiencing the Universe Coaster
If you are brave enough to try the Universe Coaster for yourself, Marcel Vos has made it possible. You can download and play the file on your PC to experience this insane roller coaster for yourself. However, you will have to bring a lot of snacks because you won’t be around to experience the final ride’s completion, and neither will anyone else in the entire universe.
